Hi
Guys, welcome to the all-new Bingelder.nl
Hobby - Astronomy.
Partial Solar Eclipse, march 20, 2015
On 20 march 2015 there was a partial solar eclipse (84%) in The Netherlands. Of course the Observatory
was open for public, and lots of amateur astronomers were present with
their telescopic gear, scientific explanation and other astronomy
stories.
The weather was as dutch as it can be: cold and cloudy. But lots of
people showed up anyway and stubbornly bought eclipse-shades. "Hope is the last thing to die" I heard someone say.
We had to wait a while, but at exactly the right moment there was a
slight break in the clouds. And a few minutes later, for a lovely ten
seconds (well okay, fifteen...) it got so bright we had to wear the
shades.
Here are my photographs. Enjoy.

Solar projection on a studio reflector. Smart idea!
Of course we had streams from places where the weather was less... dutch?
Our Sam takes a shot of me.
Self-portrait.
As
you can see, the amateur astronomers came with plenty of gear. I count
nine different 'scopes in this photograph. Oh and one satellite dish;
more on that later.
Guests enjoying a presentation about the eclipse and astronomy in general.
L1-tv, the local television station, was present for interviews and hopefully a peek through the clouds.
That is Norbert by the way, he's our chairman...
...with the Observatory in the distance. More on that on the Observatory website.
Small scale and home-made...
...to large-scale and semi-pro, all were prepared for The Moment.
YES!!! The first glimpse only minutes before 84%-eclipse.
And it got better.
Yeah well, I can't beat that.
Doesn't this remind you of something?
Alice?
Cheshire Cat? Anyone?
Oh well, guess it's just me...
